With input of three new symptoms, iDiagnosis narrowed its diagnoses down to 4 diagnoses, including Bacterial Gastroenteritis, Diphyllobothriasis, Irritable Bowel Syndrom, and Drug-induced Hepatitis. The diseases are listed in order of likelihood of diagnosis, with most likely diagnosis being the 1st disease and least likely diagnosis being the 4th disease (figure 6). The likelihood of diagnosis is determined by an algorithm that incorporates user personal medical history, user clinical test data, and disease profiles. The iDiagnostic algorithm ends when the results are less than four diseases. We can choose to click either the Next button or the iReport button. The Next button leads to a webpage with detailed descriptions of all 4 diagnoses, while the iReport button leads a summary page of this diagnostic exercise.
Again, the chosen symptoms and the top 3 diagnoses are summerized in the top of the webpage. The iDiagnostic algorithm automatically terminates its diagnostic refinement process when the result of diagnosis is equal or less than 4 diseases. This threshold was chosen based on repeated tests and careful considerations. Medical diagnoses and treatments require doctor's attention. The purpose of iDiagnostic tool is to provide comprehensive analysis of users' physical condition and ongoing symptoms. Armed with knowledge of potential diseases associated with the symptoms, users should discuss the different scenario of diagnoses with attending physicians. It is important to recognize that the doctor should make the ultimate diagnosis on the users' health condition.
Although statistical evaluations are part of the iDiagnosis algorithm, we chose not to display quantitative values for each diagnosis in order to avoid mis-understanding and potentially over dependence on the results. iHomeMD is NOT meant as a substitute for doctor's attention.
